| :: HISTORY OF THE SOZO COLLECTIVE |
![]()
'The SOZO Collective' are based in Birmingham; with members from the West Midlands, New York and Japan.
In February 2002 SOZO took over five huge Victorian terrace houses in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, transformed them, and staged the successful and influential open-access Intervention show.
SOZO transform houses & factories into galleries. They have no interest in sterile white spaces. They go to places where the everyday eye & the natural heart matter. They involve the public in delving into the emotions & memories within spaces in which people have lived & worked; together they create new work which understands 'place' in new ways.
